Prep Scholar Receives Award

Tindley Prep scholar Julian Smith received the Brother's Keeper award at the 2013 Strengthening Family Conference. Julian is an honor roll student at The Prep and is a wonderful poet and writer. Julian is also very involved in his church community, martial arts, and selflessly helps to take care of his brother with disabilities.

I salute Julian and his family. Congratulations!

Tiger Cafe Gets Raised Beds to Grow

The Tiger Cafe just got better! Ronak Shah, William Bork, and the crew received raised beds from a local camp. They will use the beds to grow the food they cook. The neighborhood that Tindley Prep sits in is a notorious food desert. All extra food from the garden will be donated so people in the Meadows/Devington community. The Prep looks forward to what the Tiger Cafe will do this year.

Welcome Back 2013-2014

Prep Families

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year. I look forward to the magnificent things we will be able to accomplish this year. We did great things for young men last year, but we cannot rest on our laurels. We must work harder and smarter to achieve the goal of college for every one of our young men.

I am happy to announce that we will continue many successful co-curricular activities this year along with new clubs for students to enjoy. Mr. Shah will be bringing back the Tiger Cafe. Mr. Bork will be returning for Chess Club. In addition to those things, we will also have GAME IT build a video game curriculum, First Lego League, and Hip-Hop Club will continue.

The Tindley Preparatory Academy would like to thank you all for choosing our family as a school home for your son. He is a son of excellence and there will be none greater.

Preparation: Summer Work for Prerequisite Preparation

Hello Prep Families

In an effort to make sure students do not lose valuable skills over the summer, we have uploaded work that will help students stay sharp on a basic level over the summer. As you know, we give diagnostic and prerequisite tests at the beginning of the year. It is our hope that this work will help your student stay ready for those.

There aren't many problems included (20 items per grade level for math - 1 packet for English), but we think these are the most essential foundational skills for your young men.

Mr. Jones: 2013 Education Champion

2013 Education Champion: Patrick Jones II The Education Champion award recognizes an individual who has devoted his or her time, expertise and focus in supporting youth, championing education and was nominated by community members of the City of Indianapolis.

The 2013 Education Champion award, sponsored by Royal United Mortgage and presented by Peyton Manning , went to Patrick Jones II.  Patrick is the Principal of Tindley Preparatory Academy, a middle school focused on the educational, social and emotional programming developed to meet the specific needs of adolescent boys.

Tiger Cafe: Urban Acres

On Wednesday, May 29, the scholars of the Tindley Prep Tiger Café took a field trip to Indy Urban Acres, a partnership between Gleaner’s Food Bank and the Indianapolis Parks and Recreation Department. Indy Urban Acres is an eight-acre urban farm and community garden on the east side of Indianapolis. All of the produce cultivated on the land is donated to local food banks and nutrition programs, and members of the neighborhood can grow crops of their own in community plots.

Students learned about growing plants, composting, beekeeping, raised beds, egglaying hens, and a variety of other facts about where their food comes from. Many were so surprised to see what their food looked like when it was growing out of the ground! They got to sample some fresh spinach and other vegetables growing on the farm. Each scholar then got to plant some bean sprouts in soil, which they could take home to start gardens of their own.

8th Grade Class Trip 2013: Photo Album

Our 8th Graders recently went to St. Louis to visit Washington University and St. Louis University. We also made stops at Six Flags and Sweetie Pies.
