Sons of Light Leadership - Fall 2014

The Sons of Light Leadership (Formerly Tindley Prep Leaders) have been selected, initiated, and trained. We look forward to what their leadership will bring to our school. The program started in 2012 with leaders who were willing to go against the grain and lead their peers. We believe that peer-to-peer leadership is the most difficult and most valuable type of leadership there is. Our young men learn to address their peers in a respectful yet powerful manner. This allows them to uphold the values, culture, and community of the Tindley Preparatory Academy.

The leaders inducted were:
Doctor Edwin Girton
Doctor Ariel Scott
Doctor Devin Archie
Doctor Reilly Conwell
Chief Armund Churchwell
Chief Josiah Poole
Chief Chad Lightbourne
Doctor Jamari Pollard
Doctor Paul Ford
Chief Gabriel Jones

The rank of Doctor identifies a 7th grade leader.
The rank of Chief identifies an 8th grade leader.

Webster Brewer - Coach for College

The Coaches for College program at Tindley Prep leads young men to excellence. We pair them with a community member that aims to change their lives for the better by providing the guidance a young man needs to be successful. Mentors spend 2 hours a month or more with their mentees and have 10 essential conversations.

Webster Brewer has been a coach for Tindley Prep for the last three years. He has helped increase the grade point average of all of his mentees and has relentlessly gone into battle with them to help them become more diligent in their school work.

We applaud the work Webster is doing with our young men and we applaud the work all of our mentors are doing with the young men of the Tindley Preparatory Academy.

Jim Poyser Visits Prep to Speak About Climate Science

Mr. Jim Poyser came to talk to Tindley Prep 7th graders about climate science -- how human activity can impact the environment and how youth can organize together to help stop climate change, both by politically organizing and by educating others.

Mr. Shah does a great job of posing problems to scholars at Tindley Prep that affect the entire world and not just them individually. This approach is valuable because it broadens their responsibility and awareness.

Brad Oliver visits Prep

Dr. Brad Oliver, of the Indiana State Board of Education, joined the Tindley Preparatory recently. He was impressed with what was going on to enagage, empower, and edify young men in Indianapolis.
